Shriya Saran (Hindi: श्रिया / श्रेया सरन; born September 11, 1982),[1] also known by the mononym Shriya, is an Indian film actress. She began her career acting in music videos, while attending an acting studio. She is noted for working simultaneously in several of the regional industries of Indian cinema. After her feature film debut in 2001 with Ishtam, she gained Telugu cinema's attention in 2002 by playing the role of Bhanu in Santhosham,[2] her first commercial success. Subsequently, she appeared in several Telugu films with prominent actors, while also making in-roads in the Hindi film industry as well as the Tamil film industry. In 2007, Saran gained nationwide fame after her performance alongside Rajinikanth in Sivaji: The Boss,[3][4] after which she signed a Hollywood film and several Hindi and Tamil films.

Saran performs predominantly in lead roles in high-budget and major studio films[citation needed], ranging from romantic comedies and drama to science fiction and action thrillers. Following commercial successes with Santhosham (2002),[5] Tagore (2003),[6] Sivaji: The Boss (2007)[7][8] (which became the highest grossing Tamil film at that time),[9][10][11] and Kanthaswamy (2009)[12][13][14] she established herself as one of the leading actresses in the South Indian film industry.[15]

Saran has been often tagged in the media as a "glamor doll", after portraying the role of a sexy girl in several movies, especially Sivaji: The Boss which brought her International recognition.[16] In 2010, Saran was featured in a poll conducted by Rediff about woman achievers in Indian entertainment, and she was ranked among the top actresses
