Shriya Saran (Hindi: श्रिया / श्रेया सरन; born September 11, 1982)[1] is an Indian film actress. She began her career acting in music videos, while also attending an acting studio to follow her dream to act. After her feature film debut in 2001 with Ishtam, she gained Telugu cinema's attention in 2002 by playing the role of Bhanu in Santhosham,[2] her first commerical success. Subsequently, she appeared in several Telugu films with prominent actors, whilst, also making in-roads in the Hindi film industry as well as the Tamil film industry. In 2007, Saran gained nationwide fame after her performance alongside Rajinikanth in Sivaji: The Boss,[3][4] after which she signed a Hollywood film and several Hindi and Tamil films.

Saran performs predominantly in lead roles in high-budget and major studio films, ranging from romantic comedies and drama to science fiction and action thrillers. Following commercial successes with Santhosham (2002)[5], Tagore (2003),[6] Sivaji: The Boss (2007)[7][8] which became the highest grossing Tamil film at that time,[9][10][11] and Kanthaswamy (2009)[12][13][14] she established herself as one of the leading actresses in the South Indian film industry.[15] Her other major box office film which established her career is Nuvve Nuvve (2002),[16][17] Nenunnanu (2003)[18][19][20], Chatrapathi (2005)[21][22] which earned her a Filmfare nomination for best actress in Telugu and Don Seenu (2010), Thiruvilayadal Arambam (2006),[23][24] Azhagiya Tamil Magan (2007)[25][26] and Kutty (2010)[27][28] in Tamil, Awaarapan (2007)[29] which earned her Filmfare nomination for best debut actress and Mission Istaanbul (2008)[30] in Hindi and Pokkiri Raja (2010) which is her debut film[31][32][33] in Malayalam.
